Lecture 'Ethics Of Gene Editing'

 

On the 23rd of november Technologisch Gezelschap will attend a 'Van Hasselt Lecture'. During this lecture we will discuss about the ethics of gene editing.

The keynote speaker is:
prof.dr. Annelien Bredenoord
professor of Ethics of Biomedical Innovation, University Medical Center Utrecht
“Editing Society: The Ethics of Gene Editing”

The welcome speech will be given by a Council Member of Delft and the introduction by
prof.dr.ir. Tim van der Hagen, President of TU Delft. After the keynote speech, the Rector
Magnificus of TU Delft prof.ir. K.Ch.A.M. Luyben will present the Mekel Award for the
best student project in the area of socially responsible innovation.

The theme of the yearly Van Hasselt Lecture will relate to Ethics, Technology, Peace and
Justice. The lecture is named after the Delft student Frans van Hasselt, who gave a speech
on 23rd November 1940 denouncing the dismissal of Jewish professors at the university.
Frans van Hasselt was arrested by the German occupying forces and died in 1942 at
Buchenwald concentrationcamp.

This lecture is organized by Studium Generale TU Delft and the department Values,
Technology and Innovation of the Faculty of Technology, Policy & Management.
